PROJECTS

The Instituto de Ciencia Política features outstanding products with the objective of contributing to the enrichment of debate and to understanding the basic principles of democracy, the free market and individual liberty.

Periodically the Institute publishes two kinds of documents focused on the political, economic and social analysis of issues particular to Colombia and to Latin America in general. The first kind of documents are entitled Policy Reports, which intend, in a clear and simple manner, to inform the reader of the more important issues of the moment, analyzed with its own particular criteria. The second kind of documents called Policy Papers, aim with deeper investigation, to help to inspire debates concerning the more complex issues of the current national or regional reality, in order to propose structural changes in government, society and the private sector.

Since 2002, the Instituto de Ciencia Política edits Perspectiva magazine, a quarterly publication that emphasizes on Latin American political, economical and social analysis. Currently the magazine circulates in 12 Latin American countries with a very clear line which focuses on defending the principles of democracy, freedom and market economy. Perspectiva represents an effort of ICP with the financial support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) in Washington and important Latin American think tanks such as Fundación Libertad in Argentina, Centro de Divulgación del Conocimiento Económico (CEDICE) in Venezuela, Instituto Ecuatoriano de Economía Política (IEEP) in Ecuador, Centro para la Apertura y el Desarrollo de América Latina (CADAL), Instituto Invertir in Perú, Fundación Libertad in Panamá, Fundación Milenio in Bolivia, Libertad y Desarrollo in Chile, Consejo Superior de la Empresa Privada (COSEP) in Nicaragua, and Centro de Investigaciones Económicas Nacionales (CIEN) in Guatemala.

The Legislative Observatory seeks to facilitate public access to restricted information about Congress by providing complete and timely information about the most important Bills under debate in Congress; creating opportunities for different academic, political, commercial and social sectors in order to reflect upon bill content, and to make proposals from the civil sector of society in order to enrich the debates in progress. The most important outputs of the Legislative Observatory are its newsletters, the Legislative Juncture Debates and the Expert Round Tables.

Following its objective of promoting and teaching the values and principles of democracy and market oriented economy, ICP designs and executes different projects and activities within a wide range of social and political leaders, such as entrepreneurs, business men, young politicians, opinion makers and decision makers.

The Observatory for Policy and Strategy in Latin America (OPEAL in Spanish) is a project created as a space for the systematization of information and for the production of specialized analysis on the geopolitical behavior of the region and its impact on security, policy design, and application of government strategies over the short, medium and long term, including the understanding of environmental and energy phenomena as elements of a strategic character for Latin America.

This project seeks to strengthen the importance of the role of the youth in the development of the country, with the aim to bring them closer to the world of liberal ideas, dialogue, discussion, debate and refelxion as a way to guarantee the weel being of the nation. ICP pursues this through dynamic activities like Pizza&Politics, Movie Forums and Reading Circles.

This area focuses on positioning ICP as a reference point for the generation of news worthy information both for the general public and the mass media, through a direct contact with the media, the different events hosted by ICP and social networks, on topics related to the values and principles of democracy and market oriented economy.
